ArtStreet's New Media Evolution

We've partnered with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for a radical project - an artistic enterprise unlike anything we've attempted before. WLRN is teaming up with the most exciting artists, musicians and performers in south Florida to collaborate on a series of videos designed for the web.

These videos will be fun, playful and creative. They will make history as Miami's artists take part in a project to define the city itself, using the tools of the internet age.

To learn more, check out the video posted below.

Engineer Takes On YouTube

Marc DeVidts is a local engineer with an artist's mind - he's created a few videos about some of his projects and they have racked up some impressive hits. This one details the "Star Trek" style door he created in his bedroom, this one is a glow in the dark suit that he can control with his iPhone. Wow!

Yara Travieso comes to the NWS

Miami born director and choreographer Yara Travieso is an up-and-coming creative powerhouse. An original founder of the Borscht Film Festival, she has now turned her energy full time into producing, creating and manifesting wildly inventive mixed media performance pieces at world class venues like the Lincoln Theater in New York and the recently opened New World Symphony building on Miami Beach. Her latest show, presented by youngArts, opened to a packed house and was a bracing study of an emotional free fall. Although the show has moved on, I've posted the promotional video for it here. Enjoy!

Adventures of Discipline

Darren Hoffman is a Miami born filmmaker currently splitting his time between New Orleans and New York. He's working on a number of wonderful projects and this video is one of his newest. A dynamic multi-camera performance piece, the video focuses on a single musician, the great Jason Marsalis, as he plays the hell out of a drum set.

Focal Point Dance Studio

Focal Point Dance Studio is based out of West Kendall. That fact alone makes this a must watch.

Coral Morphologic = Under the Sea Magic

For those of you not in the know, Coral Morphologic is a marine biology/art collective run out Miami by two mad geniuses, Colin Foord and Jared McKay. You can learn more about them by watching their ArtStreet segment, or by going to their website.

ANR - Stay Kids Official Video

ANR is homegrown talent, and this new video shows what we love about them. Directed by Jorge Rubiera, it's all-around wonderful. Check it out!

Rachel Goodrich - Fire

Rachel Goodrich is one of the best things to come out of Miami's music scene in a long while. We love her and we love what she's up to. Check out this video for her new song "Fire," filmed (sadly) out in Palm Desert, California.

Jen Stark's Newest Papermation

Local paper artist Jen Stark has just released her most ambitious Papermation to date - this one is a music video for underground electronic musician Dan Deacon. It's mesmerizing and wonderful. Learn more about Jen by going to her site, reading the Miami New Times profile or by watching her ArtStreet Segment.

Jillian Mayer's 'I Am Your Grandma' Terrifies and Delights

The following video was created by local Miami multi-media and performance artist Jillian Mayer. It's a video note to her future grandchildren and it must be seen to be believed. Mayer recently held her first solo exhibition at the David Castillo Gallery in Wynwood, where this video played along side several other wonderfully weird pieces. The New Times review is here. "I am your Grandma" premiered at the 2011 Borscht Film Festival before hitting YouTube, where it has spread like wildfire.

With over 650,000 views, the video has inspired remakes, remixes and fan videos like the ridiculous "I Am Your Grandpa"
